The Donkey Sanctuary
They currently have an incredible 5,800 donkeys in their care – Go and meet some of the 500 at Sidmouth waiting to meet you.
Their donkeys love to meet new people and you can discover their unique characters and stories. Can you find the gentle giant Poitou donkeys, or our gorgeous adoption donkeys? Visit and cuddle the main yard donkeys or spot a miniature in one of the fields.

The Bicton Park Botanical Gardens
Spanning nearly 300 years of horticultural history, these magnificent grade 1 listed gardens are set in Devon picturesque Otter Valley , between the ancient city of Exeter and England’s Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site. The superbly landscaped park combines 18th century tranquillity with modern amenities to provide all year round enjoyment for everyone of all ages including historic glasshouses, a countryside museum, the Bicton Woodland Railway train ride, nature trail, maze, mini golf, indoor and outdoor children’s play complexes, restaurant and shop. All this makes us one of the most visited attractions in the South West of Devon.
Bird Watching in Devon
By the coast or inland – Sidmouth, Devon has a variety of habitats and estuaries that host a variety of life. With both coniferous and deciduous woodland, farmland, rocky coastline. In Sidmouth’s wetlands hosts ecosystems of life in grazing marsh, mudflats, saltmarsh and reedbeds, and provides a haven for wildlife, especially birds.
For resident birds, Devon is best known for its population of Cirl Buntings, whose stronghold is the South Hams. Peregrine, Pied Flycatcher, Raven, Dipper, and Little Egret are all relatively easy birds for visiting birders. Sea watching, mainly from the South coast, may provide Sabine`s gull, Sooty shearwaters etc, under the right conditions.
